They contacted us at very late notice and wanted to feature one of our aerogardens in a programme all about gardening. The aerogarden was sent, all was done and we waited with baited breath; we were set for a rave review only for it to be spoilt by none other than a fist pumping scot with bulging biceps…….Andy Murray.

The programme was due to be aired live on Monday 30th June at 7pm on BBC 1. As many of you are aware, with the tennis pedigree that exists in the UK, we take every opportunity to show the nation our talents, whether it be Chris Eaton, Laura Robson or Andy Murray, and so it happened that the Wimbledon Mens last 16 singles game between Andy Murray and Richard Gasquet on Day 7 of the Championship was shuffled from BBC 2 to BBC 1. All i can say was that we were rather dissapointed.

Pictures of the aerogarden that would or should have been aired are here, the chillis are looking pretty good, we are sure you, Adrian and Andy would have agreed!

We now have stock of three tier shelves, as can be seen in the rather poor quality picture. Are you running out of room for your aerogardens? Then the 3 tier shelf is the answer. The three tier shelf is easily mounted on the wall, and the sleek design looks great in any room. The elegant unit lets you mount three AeroGardens vertically on the wall to grow everything from herbs to cascading flowers. It not only saves counter space, but adds a beautiful organic feel to any décor.

In the aerogarden three tier shelf in the office we have gourmet herbs in the bottom aerogarden, salad greens in the middle (which have only been in 2 days) and we were planting chilli peppers in the top aerogarden as the photo was taken.

Here at www.aerogarden.org.uk we have just got stock of the garden starter tray which is a fast, simple, clean and foolproof seed starter kit allowing gardeners to get a jump on the outdoor growing season. You can start up to 70 seedlings indoors in an AeroGarden with no soil or mess. They can then be easily transplanted into an outdoor garden when you want. The specially designed tray uses biodegradable and nutrient-rich BioCell growing media and fits into any 7-pod AeroGarden, providing just the right amount of light, water and nutrients for fast germination and healthy root development. This effectively converts the aerogarden into the ultimate propagator, as seeds gerimante and begin growth at a super fast rate. This is of course a gardener’s dream come true, as they can then transport the small plants into pots or their outdoor garden when the the weather is suitable.

Th garden starter tray costs £29.99 + £3.99 postage and packaging.

The kit Includes the nutrient tablets for a full set of seedlings as well,
but YOU need to supply your own seeds.

The tomato plants are now at full height – even with the extended lamp height which is shown elsewhere in the blog. We are now cutting back and pinching the growth at the top to encourage the plants to bush further down below. They have started to flower and we hope that we’ll have shots of the tomatoes at some point soon. At the moment it is not the prettiest plant. Customers can clearly see why we only have three active pods.

The salad greens are continuously growing and being eaten by people in the warehouse. The height of the lamp is at the tallest default setting for the Aerogarden.

Although she enjoyed the initial Gourmet Herb kit we rarely cook with dill or chives so these went to waste. In contrast we found that one coriander and a single basil plant was insufficient for our needs. So we took the Master Gardener kit and some of the Sutton Seed kits that we also sell and made up three basil and four coriander seed pods.

The seeds were planted on 05/04/2008 and first signs of life from the Basil were seen on 11/04/2008. The coriander is still not poking up from the sponges – but I checked inside yesterday and the seeds have germinated so it is only a matter of time. It seems to take a little longer for our packet seeds to germinate than the ones supplied within the seed kits – and we have asked the American makers of the Aerogarden if this is always the case (we will let you know).

Unfortunately the picture does not give you much. We will post updated pictures below as the growing continues.

15/04/2008

20/04/2008

As you can see a lot has happened in the last week. All but one of the seed pods have germinated and are showing strong signs of growth. One coriander seed – often one of the hardest seeds to grow – has not germinated. In its place we put some cress seeds in on Monday – they are already the same size as all the other herb plants!

28/04/2008

Another busy week. One of the basil seems to have died and I will replace this with some new seeds this week.

14/05/2008

Apart from my wife deciding to use a load of coriander in a Curry paste on Sunday night the garden is progressing well

Neither the tomatoes nor the chili peppers have started started bearing fruit as yet but as you can see the salad greens have been intensively used by around four people for the last week as sandwich filler. If we hadn’t touched the salad leaves they would be at least double the size.

The tomato plants – as you can clearly see – need the spacer pods between the three plants. The plants are remarkably robust for such a young age and we intend to plant them out once the weather is a little hotter on a regular basis.

We are hoping that the salad greens will provide us with a fairly continuous source for sandwiches – as they currently are.

The chili peppers have all grown at a fast rate. You can see in this photo the effect of natural light on the plants. The window is on the left hand side of the photo and it is clear that these plants are larger than the ones on the left. Again there are no signs of peppers as yet.
