We received many inquiries about growing plants, fruits and veggies that are not initially offered in a seeds kit from us. We encourage everyone that has made the wonderful decision to grow indoors with our device. We will support any attempt of growing different and interesting plants and encourage you to share your experience with us.

Today we would like to talk about self-pollinating plants. The seed packages we offer you are designed so as to they can grow perfectly in your indoor garden. But if you decide to experiment with other things we have a little advice that will help you grow better plants. Whenever you plant something that is self-polluting – you do not have to worry. These plants will grow good. Examples of such plants are the orchids and the peas. But in other cases, when what you plant is not self-pollinating – always shake the plants a little from time to time, so you can help them pollinate. Bees won’t do that for you indoors, so you will have to help your garden a little bit if you want the results to turn out good.

Before you plant anything out of our seeds kit, please do check if it is self-pollinating or not. Aerogarden expects to receive any feedback from you on you experiments and wishes you good luck.

Earlier this year the nutrients for all aerogarden seed kits was changed to liquid nutrients in sachets.
They replaced the old tablet nutrients that often got damaged. Liquid nutrients last longer and are easier to store – and do not have the problem of dissolving in heat.
But they come in different sizes, and some people have come to us a little confused when adding them in and don’t know which sachets to use.
The nutriens come in 8ml and 5.5ml sachets.
Herb and salad seed kits include just the 8ml sachets, and you should use one sachet per feeding (every two weeks).
For chillies, tomatoes and flowering seed kits, both 5.5ml and 8ml sachets are included. Use all one 8ml sachet per feeding at start up, every two weeks until all the 8ml sachets are finished.
After all the 8ml packets are used it’s time to move on to 5,5 ml packets,
as the plants grow bigger and they need that little bit of extra food. Use two 5.5ml packets at each feeding for the rest of the seed kits life.
We recommend pouring the nutrients to a glass of water first, stir them and then pour the whole glass in.

Just don’t forget to shake well, before opening the sachet.

We have had some customers come to us over the past 6 months or so who have purchased a Gourmet Herb seed kit and been disappointed (or pleasantly surprised) to find that the kit didn’t come with a cilantro (coriander) seed pod as they might have expected.

This subject has been due a blog post for a while so we apologise for the tardiness of posting it, but just to clarify, the seed pod in the Gourmet herb kit which used to be cilantro has now been replaced by thyme. The cilantro had a slightly lower rate of germination than the other seeds in the kit, and has been changed to Thyme in order to make it possible for us to continue to honour our germination guarantee on all Aerogarden seed kits.

So our apologies to those whom this change has disappointed. If you do still have your heart set on growing coriander in the Aerogarden, then we recommend that you purchase some coriander seeds from your local garden centre, and plant them in the Aerogarden using the master gardener seed kit, which allows you to grow your own seeds of any practically any variety.

The Aerogarden Chilli Pepper seed kit was one of the first sets of seed kits released in the UK . This review is taken from our affiliated American site (they have had the kit much longer to grow fully).

The kit sprouted right on schedule just like the last ones and seemed to grow just as quickly. I followed the directions in the AeroGarden tending and harvesting guide and trimmed back the plants when they were about 2 weeks old. After another week I could already tell that trimming the plants made a big difference and encouraged much more leaf and stem growth. At about 4 weeks my chili pepper plants began to flower! I was excited. With the Chili Pepper Seed Kit, just as the Cherry Tomatoes and other flowering kits, you have to pollinate the flowers by hand once they bloom, otherwise no peppers will develop. I didn’t want to risk growing a pretty plant with NO fruit, so I used a trick my grandpa use to use on his tomatoes. I got an old small paintbrush and actually brushed the pollen of the flowers onto each other. This way, I could ensure that each flower would produce a pepper.

Signs of Success:

Sure enough, shortly after I pollinated the flowers I began to see small little bud (baby pepper fruits) forming which quickly grew into full blown chili peppers and lots of them. It was a blast to watch the peppers change colors. I have to admit, that even though I like salsa and spice, the chili peppers in this kit were a little too hot for my taste, but none the less it was a beautiful kit to grow. It basically served its purpose as a beautiful, decorative house plant. Everbody that came to our house commented about how much they liked it.

Overall Summary

Overall, the Chili Pepper Seed Kit for the AeroGarden was a fun kit to grow. Although the peppers didn’t really get used due to being a little too hot & spicy, they provided an attractive and unique accent to our home and were very fun to grow and look at.

Technical

Aerogarden Chili Pepper Seed kit – Three varieties of zesty chili peppers to offer a full range of chili heat and flavor to spice up your cooking. Includes two Jalapeno (Mexican cooking favorite), two Red Fire (great for Asian dishes), and three Purple Super Hot (for colour and punch) Seed Pods. Harvestable fruit in about twelve weeks with hundreds of peppers produced for up to six months.
