How to Get a Bigger Harvest

August 15th, 2011

When you are growing with Aerogarden there are a few things you should know so that you get a bigger harvest. We have already talked about how to clean up your garden, so you get enough light and air for all the plants. This is very important, because all plants need enough growing light, especially ones grown indoors. The other thing is pollinating. We can share a little trick with you when it comes to pollinating. First of all you have to research whether the plants you grow are self pollinating or not. Here is an easy trick – get an electric toothbrush and turn it on. You can gently touch each open flower with it. The buzzing and the motion from the toothbrush resembles that of a bee, the pollen is being dispersed and pollination occurs. We say open flowers, because that is when plants are ready to be pollinated, when their flowers open up. You have to make sure you do that every day when there are open flowers. If you fail to pollinate a flower, it will just come off. If that happens clean up the fallen flowers off the bottom of the garden. Tomatoes and pepper plants flower between 4 and 6 weeks. If you are growing those beware of that time line. If you do not have an electric toothbrush you can simply shake each plant a little.

Soon you will enjoy a rich a delicious harvest with your Aerogarden!

The Hydroponic Craze

August 1st, 2011

Aerogarden UK is here to help you out when you choose your new indoor garden. There is a big hydroponic craze lately and people are educating themselves more and more on how these gardens work. The more they learn, the more they want to own one. Years ago the hydroponic plants were looked down upon. People did not really believe that it is possible to grow anything without soil. But lately, this technique is much improved and many chefs for example share that they prefer to work with gourmet salads and herbs grown hydroponically, because they have greater quality. These plants are grown without any harmful herbicides and pesticides and on top of all they use 90% less water that the plants grown in the traditional way. This means that growing these plants is ultimately environmentally friendly. No runoff in the soil from artificially added chemicals, less water. This method of growing can be very useful in regions where water is scarce. It will lower the cost of the produce as well. When plants are being produced close to the markets, they cost less. What is more, they are fresher and tastier, because they do not have to travel thousands of miles to reach their destination. And since many of the agricultural lands around the world have a reduction in growth, hydroponically will solve many problems.

Check out Aerogarden UK and start growing hydroponics, you will soon find out the convenience of having fresh produce inside your home at all times!
