How Does the Master Gardener Seed Kit Work?

February 21st, 2008

We encourage our customers to have fun and experiment with their own favorite seeds in the AeroGarden. To facilitate this we offer a Master Gardener seed Kit, which comes with seven reusable baskets, 21 unplanted Grow Sponges and Domes, and a year’s supply of nutrients, as well as an excellent Master Gardener seed guide with directions and general suggestions for planting and growing your own seeds. The Master Gardener seed kit is available from our website at http://www.aerogarden.org.uk/aerogardenmastergardener.html

You cannot say with certainty whether specific plants (other than those in the Seed Kits) will grow well in the AeroGarden. Every plant in each of the Seed Kits has undergone extensive growing trials to determine its water, light and nutrient requirements, as well as its general suitability for aeroponic growing. However, there are still many more plants out there that have not yet been tested.
The Master Gardener Deluxe Kit is also a favorite of those customers who want to grow one or two favorite herbs that they use in quantity, rather than having smaller quantities of greater variety. If you have great success, let us know and we’ll publish the photos here.If you wish to download the Master Gardener guide – right click on the link below, choose “save target as” and save to your computer. This is a large file so please take your time.

Aerogarden Light and Pump settings

February 21st, 2008

I just set up my new AeroGarden, and the lights (or Pump) won’t stay on

The AeroGarden is programmed to have its Grow Bulbs and Pump on for only a certain number of hours per day, which varies depending upon which seed kit you are growing. The Grow Bulbs and Pump do not necessarily run at the same time.Depending on the setting, the AeroGarden Pump and lights will run as follows:

AeroGarden Classic

Plant Type

Lights On

Pump On

Tomatoes/Peppers

16 hours

20 hours

Salad Greens

16.5 hours

24 hours

Herbs/Basil

17 hours

17 hours

Flowers

15.5 hours

20 hours

Strawberries

16 hours

16 hours

Unless your garden is set to Salad Greens where the Pump is programmed to run continuously, your AeroGarden may be at a point in its cycle where the Pump and Grow Bulbs are programmed to be off. Every AeroGarden is tested at the factory before it is packed. During this testing the garden’s initial cycle may be interrupted, so that the next time it is plugged in, the AeroGarden will finish out that initial cycle before resuming its regular, full-timed cycle. If it happens to have been interrupted at the point in the cycle where the Pump and Grow Bulbs are supposed to be off, it will appear to be malfunctioning when it is merely between cycles. With the AeroGarden Classic, set it on Salad Greens and the Pump should run continuously, and the Grow Bulbs should run 16 out of 24 hours. If setting the garden to Salad Greens shows that the base is good but the cycle is off where you’d like it to be, you can set the AeroGarden to come on (OR go off, but not both) its 24-hour cycle when you want, by following one of the procedures below:For setting the time your AeroGarden comes on:

  1. Decide what time you want your AeroGarden to come on.
  2. At that time of day, press the “Lights” button and hold it down until the green light next to the plant selection flashes, then continue holding it until the LED light blinks faster – about 12 seconds. Release the button.
  3. Your lights will now come on at this time each day.

For setting the time your AeroGarden goes off:

  1. Decide what time of the day you want the lights to go off. At that time check that the lights are on. If they are off, quickly press and release the “Lights” button.
  2. Press and hold the “Lights” button for about 5 seconds, until the green light next to the plant setting starts blinking. Release the button when the flashing begins.
  3. When the blinking stops, the lights will go off. Your lights are now set to go off at this time every day.
