Understanding How the Aerogarden Works

Posted on | January 13, 2011 | No Comments

The smart garden on your Aerogarden is the brain of the whole operation. These gardens rely entirely on water and the specific amount of nutrients to ensure that the plants grow quickly and healthy. It makes the overall experience of gardening easy and quick. The name Aerogarden comes from the fact that the roots of the plants are in a combination of nutrients and water rather than soil. This makes this garden not only the cleanest but easiest to maintain. There is no need to take the plants out to get sun, or worry about forgetting to add water as there are reminders, as well as special built-in glow lights which ensure that your plants get the right amount of light every day.

Once you receive your garden you will see how simple the whole process is. There are instructions helping you out with the process of preparing your grow pods and ensuring that within 24 hours you get results. Due to the right combination of light, water, nutrients and oxygen the grow pods show results ultra quick in comparison to a regular garden. These miniature grow pods are dirt free and simple to set up so you can enjoy your garden before you know it.

The best part of the Aerogarden is that the smart garden ensures that you never forget to add water as it offers an alarm which notifies you when its time to add water. It also regulates the light intervals necessary to guarantee a healthy and happy garden.  So, enjoy your new garden and the colours it brings to your life.

An indoor garden makes a wonderful Christmas gift this year. You will enjoy looking through the many beautiful choices we have available, from starter kits to additional seed kits. It’s the ideal gift which doesn’t require the constant attention than a regular garden would. You don’t have to worry about forgetting when its time to water or add nutrients to the garden, as it has an automatic reminder telling you. Plus, there is no mess like with other potted plants because our indoor gardens are not in dirt, but only in water, which makes them ideal for any kitchen countertop. The hydroponic technology requires you to only add water and nutrients, the system has its own lights which regulate how much the plants need and turn on and off when necessary. It’s a great gift for the green thumb that does not have the appropriate light as well as time to take care of plants at home. Also, its ideal for a culinary devotee that enjoys creating delicious meals with fresh herbs as our herb kit contains everything they need. With Christmas coming upon us quickly its easy to get overwhelmed with the long shopping lists, its understandable that you want to find the perfect innovative gift which will make an impression. The new indoor garden is a great way to leave a lasting impression and really show someone how much you care for them.

Adding Green to the Classroom

Posted on | November 11, 2010 | No Comments

What a better way to encourage and teach healthy eating at school than an indoor garden? It’s a great way to teach children the importance of their vegetables and a fun way to teach them about hydroponics. They will enjoy taking turns taking care of the garden and even taking it home to share it with their family for short periods of time. Each child can have a specific responsibility, whether it’s adding water or nutrients or cleaning the leaves. This way they can not only learn how to take care of a garden at home but also how light and nutrients work together in order to provide the garden with its essentials in order to grow productively. You can watch them light up as buds turn into flowers and eventually into cherry tomatoes, chilli peppers, or from little patches of green into salad greens. There are many other great options available as well, such as the various herb kits which will be a great addition to any home economics room for when its time to cook. Either way, no matter the age of the students they will enjoy taking care of the garden, and then picking its vegetables or herbs. It can be a wonderful way to teach them to eat healthy and you can celebrate it by throwing a healthy snacks party when the veggies are ready for the table! The indoor garden comes in two colours and offers a beautiful array of seed kits to fit the children’s age group and class.

Winter is Upon us!

Posted on | November 4, 2010 | 2 Comments

Many are turning to the indoor garden as winter is quickly approaching. There is nothing better than to have your own, home grown, fresh veggies, herbs, and flowers in the winter when it’s impossible to plant anything outside. You don’t worry about having dirt all over the floor when you take care of your home garden and you also don’t have the risk of forgetting to take care of your plants our indoor gardens have a reminder for when you need to add water as well as nutrients. It’s truly a great way to enjoy a beautiful garden right at home.

Vitamins are hard to come by in the winter, especially from pure green veggies and it’s not too easy to find fresh herbs for your kitchen. In winter all you will find is packets of dried herbs, which does not have the same effect. Imagine cooking and just reaching over to the counter and breaking off the herb that the recipe requires. Its pure comfort.

Not only is the indoor garden such a useful little gadget which is not only clean but easy to maintain, but it’s also very stylish. Our Aerogarden come in two different colours and who doesn’t want a beautiful green garden in their kitchen to bring life and light in.

The quick start guide will get you on your way to healthier home cooking and a beautiful green garden right in your kitchen.

So what is a Hydroponic Garden anyway?

Posted on | October 12, 2010 | No Comments

A hydroponic garden is described simply as a garden without soil. The actual roots of the plants are placed in water without any dirt or soil. There are cases in which other materials are used to keep them in place with an inert medium such as gravel, perlite, or mineral wool. After intense research it has been discovered that plants don’t actually need dirt in order to survive, the dirt is just a way to get the nutrients to the roots of the plants as well as keep them in place, but plants can get nutrients through other means. With this sort of gardening the roots are placed directly in water where they are given the necessary nutrients through dissolvable form which is therefore transferred over to the roots. Just about any terrestrial plan can be grown this way. Today the hydroponic garden is very popular on a commercial as well as personal use. Also it’s primarily used for biology research as well as teaching as it offers a basic medium without any contaminants which may be transferred through soil. It’s quickly growing in popularity on a commercial level because of its many advantages. The hydroponic garden uses much less water as well as nutrients. The water can be reused and the nutrients because they can be closely controlled so none go to waste. Also it offers high, stable, yields and it’s very easy for pest control. Though this type of gardening is very popular commercially and scientifically, it’s also a popular choice for a home garden. The hydroponic gardens can be very attractive and have a very nice modern look, as well as are much easier to take care of, and of course much cleaner.

Sky Planter by Boskke, now available here!

Posted on | September 6, 2010 | No Comments

Sky Planter is the creation of New Zealand designer Phillip Morris, an upside-down planter that has quite literally been turning gardening on its head and has grown a loyal following here in the United Kingdom.

The concept is simple, pot your favorite orchid, house fern or ‘insert beloved indoor plant here’ into a Sky Planter and using the locking mechanism and circular mesh screen your plant will be kept secure and will hang comfortably. Boskke has a range of fixing options including ceiling suspension cables and wall brackets.

sky planter 300x200 Ok, so if the plant is hanging from the ceiling how do i water it? Easy, the planter has a ceramic reservoir in the top that slowly releases water. We gave it a test run in the Aerogarden office and are only watering a small amount twice a week to our prized orchid.

We loved our Sky Planter so much that we approached Boskke who manufacture the product and we are now able to offer the Sky Planter to our Aerogarden customers. We feel the products compliment each other nicely and add to the indoor gardening experience.

Liquid Nutrients Finally Arrive in the UK

Posted on | May 18, 2010 | No Comments

After the announcement from Aerogrow, the american based manufacture of the Aerogarden that liquid nutrients were soon to be intruduced, we here at Aerogarden.org.uk have been waiting anxiously for their arrival in the UK. After many months of waiting that date has finally arrived, and we now have stock of the liquid nutrients. liquid nutrients 150x150

The old tablet form nutrients occasionally attracted moisture and could cause them to lose some of the valuable nutrients needed for proper growth of plants in the Aerogarden,  this is now a problem of the past. These new liquid nutrients should cut down on both the attraction of moisture and also the problem of the tablets not fully dissolving in the water within the Aerogarden.  It might seem silly to get as excited about something as small as liquid nutrients as we are getting but when something improves our customers growing we think it’s great.

Liquid nutrients are available for the following seed kits – salad greens, chilli peppers, cherry tomatoes and Gourmet herbs, these liquid nutrients are available for purchase on the our website and are included in the new seed kits. We will h0wever be selling our old stock which include the nutrient tablets before we move on to the new stock. If you experience any problems with the tablet nutrients please contact us and we will endeavour to resolve your problem either with replacements or advice on how to get the best results from the tablets.

Aerogarden Receives Glowing Review!

Posted on | March 23, 2010 | No Comments

250028 lettuce close up 11 150x150 The Aerogarden has received a fantastic rating in America’s number one ‘Gardening How-To’ magazine.  The magazine conducted a survey of close to 10o of their readers, where they tried out a whole host of gardening tools and accessories throughout March and April.

The magazine is one of America’s most read gardening magazines and currently has a following of over 600,000 readers.  This is obviously something that has delighted us at Aerogarden, even though it may not benefit us in the UK, it’s nice to see the Aerogarden getting the credit it deserves.   The magazine get’s the ratings for the products by taking a random sample of it’s readers, making sure there is no chance of bias towards certain products.

It’s particularly encouraging that Aerogarden is getting respected in the gardening world, as it lets a lot of people who may not have the time or space to grow their own fruit and veg in gardens still enjoy the process of cultivating their own plants!  It really is good to see the Aerogarden being rated by many who would consider themselves gardening purists.  The Aerogarden scored a fantastic 9.2 average rating, and scored over 9 in the Design, Quality, and ease of use categories, really showing how great it is for people to make a start in the gardening world with.

Gardening How To magazine is part of the National Home Gardening Club.

If you have your own review of the Aerogarden to share we’d love to hear from you, especially if you’re someone who is fairly new to growing your own plants.  It’s always nice to hear how someone first got on with our product.
